She told me to write a song that didn’t make us sad, a song that everyone would love,
She said I’d be rich, a millionaire/billionaire, she said I shouldn’t end up like my father did, and that I should be proud.
She said…
It’s June 4 and raining like a well-rehearsed November. This time of the morning I’m usually coughing ‘til my eyes tear up from the relentless pollens and allergens. Today, I’m breathing like a person. The only thing that would make this victory sweeter would be knowing I didn’t have to go back into work this evening. As it is, even that can’t completely take the wind from my sails.
The search for work continues in San Francisco. I’ve been amazingly fortunate with jobs in the past and hope to continue that luck moving forward. One way or another it’ll happen. While I’m not a fan of uncertainty, there’s still an excitement in wondering what the future has in store. Knowing that in three months everything could be completely different is exhilarating, frightening and wonderful all at the same time. It’s a tremendous city with tremendous people, and I’ll be living with someone who makes me confident it’ll all work out for the best.
Rain is renewal. This month is beginning with a baptism on a grand scale, which makes me hopeful for a positive future. Here’s to a productive summer. Here’s to San Francisco.
Really interesting. It’s pretty long for an extract from a book, but it’s definitely worth reading.

goddamnit, you’ve got to be kind.
“I got you, kid.”

This little girl is my hero. There are so many days on public transit I’d love to be able to hit someone with a stick. Ah, youth.
